PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
New London, NH, (population 4,539) in the heart of the Kearsarge-Lake Sunapee region is a unique New England town, home to Colby-Sawyer College and New London Hospital. The Town seeks a knowledgeable and experienced individual to serve as its next Public Works Director to manage the town’s highways, transfer station, wastewater collection systems, and town properties.
The Director operates with a high level of day-to-day independence, responsibility and judgement to implement a broad range of public works services and functions and recommends improvements as necessary. The position is primarily administrative and supervisory in nature, and includes responsibility for planning, directing and coordinating a wide variety of activities including the construction, maintenance and repair of the town’s roads, bridges, and sidewalks and provides the direction and oversight of 16 full and part-time employees. The position also requires knowledge of budget preparation, project management, purchasing, records management and public relations.
The Town prefers candidates with a minimum of ten years’ experience in road construction and maintenance with at least five years of supervisory experience. Candidates should possess proven interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with elected officials, department heads, employees, and the public. The salary range for this position is $70,346-$105,477 (commensurate with qualifications) plus a competitive benefits package.
